Street Art in Bärenquell Brauerei Berlin pt.1

10 minutes of walk of the city railroad station Schöneweide, Berlin is the gate of the desolate Bärenquell brewery which is already closed for 20 years. In 1882 the brewery was founded by Max Meinert and Kampfhenkel under the name „Borussia Brauerei“.

In 1898 the brewery was bought up by the magistrate brewery AG. An enlargement of the brewery took place some years later. In addition another property was bought between the Spree and today's Schnellerstrasse and was farmed. After the second world war which the brewery has got over regardless of it was unnamed in "Bärenquell VEB".

The brewery exists of a total of 12 buildings, under it the administrative building, the barrel factory, the broth and mechanical engineering house.

The decay in the buildings has begun for a long time. Inside you can still find many memories of the brewery days. Visitors can find in the cellar still a full box with original GDR beer, the upper floors are littered with labels of the bottles, as well as sugar bags and old lamps.

During the last years the brewery was a scene of many illegal parties which were organised by young people. Besides, often it came to fires which could be extinguished on time. Today the building of the brewery stands under conservation of monuments and historic buildings.
